Fergus Crawley Lifts The Dinnie Stones

The Dinnie Stones are a pair of smooth but unevenly weighted stones with handles attached to them. The home of the Dinnie Stones is in Potarch, Aberdeenshire in Scotland.

The history of the Dinnie Stones started when the famous Scottish strongman Donald Dinnie crafted the apparatus and then allegedly carried the stones across the width of the Potarch Bridge, a distance of just over 17 feet or 5.22 meters.

The Dinnie Stones are comprised of granite with attached iron rings that the lifter uses to pick up the pair. The combined weight of the stones is 733 pounds (332.49kg). The larger stone weighs just over 414 pounds (188.02kg), while the smaller stone weighs in at just over 318 pounds (144.47kg). Replicas of the Dinnie Stones are often used at international competitions.

Strength athletes attempt to lift the Dinnie Stones with a Jefferson deadlift and then hold them up off the ground for the longest time possible or try to carry them for distance in a farmer’s walk.

Less than 200 people have been able to lift these massive stones, with hybrid athlete Fergus Crawley being the 184th person to triumph over the stones. Strongman Kevin Faires holds the record with a distance of 25 feet 8 inches which he set at the 2022 Rogue Record Breakers event back in March.

Watch Crawley execute the Dinnie Stone lift below as he’s wearing a traditional kilt, lifting belt with his hands chalked up.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Although Crawley isn’t a strongman, he added his name to the list of people who’ve managed to hoist the Dinnie Stones. It’s worth mentioning that Crawley’s coach, Johnny Pain was also able to lift the stones.

Do you think you could lift the Dinnie Stones?
