I just had problems loading the pdf on my laptop. The content was amazing, however the format was difficult to access. I honestly love the product and would just like the formatting fixed so that I can learn how to properly use my mace.
As a beginner it’s perfect for starting. I like that they have YouTube videos to how to do the move.
To learn the ropes, and to get ideas, this is a great source. Highly recommend!
I do all of my workouts at home, and without the advantage of a trainer, or even friends, I must learn movements on my own from books and from youtube. This e-book is a great resource, I would recommend it. After several years of kettlebells, I look forward to beginning to use the mace with a well organized set of exercise standards and programming recommendations. This is very nearly a five star product, the rest of this review will focus on why one star is removed:
1. Navigation due to e-book format. When I click the links in the document, I am taken to very helpful multi-media content. The problem is that when I use the back button in the browser, I return to the first page of the book. I understand that formatting decisions were made and the videos truly are helpful. I would prefer if more text and photographs were used in the document itself. Pavel was able to teach some very complicated movements in Enter the Kettlebell without the use of video demonstration, and I think similar could be done here, to reduce navigation problems detracting from enjoyment of the e-book.
2. The page labelled Combine Movements - FLOW should be developed and clarified. For clarification, it comes right after the training method examples page- can the creation of a flow be used in place of the training methods covered previously? Should a flow be created as a finisher? Warmup? For development, what considerations are used in creating a flow? These are questions I ask as someone who is taking information from books to try to piece together movements that support my personal goals.
Again, my critiques are based on my needs as an individual without a trainer or a gym. I will be using this book to add to the bodyweight portion of my daily workouts, and possibly add another module to my routine. This is the best resource I have found for implementing mace exercises, and I hope it will continue to grow and develop as the authoritative guide to this workout tool.
Fantastic primer for usage of the steel mace. Well written, information packed and an invaluable piece of the puzzle in learning, using and benefiting from this amazing workout implement!
I am new to mace training and love the possibilities for functional and rotational training. Even though I have trained for 4 deacades with weights and kettlebells, and always focused on good form, I find mace training challenging and very different. This has lead me to seek out the few resources out there for information. So far I like the Set for Set Steel Mace Training Guide the best, and at a great price too. It’s obvious they have taken a great deal of time to organize and present the information in a format to help people learn and build on their training. I like the way each movement is broken down with specific details for handholds, muscles impacted, and specific instructions along with a demonstration. There is also additional info to help you build a training program and the movements are ranked by intermediate, advanced. Another reviewer is correct that much of this can be found on YouTube, but I believe much of the important details presented by Set for Set cannot be picked up in a YouTube video alone. I find this invaluable and important for this type of training to be successful and do it correctly. I appreciate the time and efforts that went into creating this. I want to do my part to support this effort, especially at such a reasonable price. The end of the guide gets into building on the information to create flows. I know that I need to work on the basics a lot more, but would love to see something from Set for Set in the future about flows. Great work!
Sometimes, I write reviews (prompted by an email) and I wondered afterward if I was fair. This morning, I wrote the review below and felt that I was missing a piece or did not complete my due-diligence. Therefore, I went back and re-read the guide and created a workout based on it. I was wrong in my initial review; the guide is fantastic for the athlete. I just did not spend enough time reading it. I should have taken my time and thought about what I was reading. I am a triathlete and strength training is a mental weakness and training hole. Learning how to include functional weight-training takes more work that I would rather spend doing the swim/bike/run thing. The steel mace is the perfect tool and this guide is the best available. I just need to learn more. Sorry and upgraded to 5 stars.
This guide has more variety and better details than the Onnit video but doesn't create a solid routine for the non-trainer. As an athlete, I really want help creating a steel mace routine to match my training. This guide gets me close but is not close enough. The information contained in the guide is thorough and well-written. The youtube imbeds are great, too! However, it is better for the fitness professional than the self-guided athlete (read: can't afford a personal trainer). Nonetheless, well worth the $5.
Honestly a lot of the tutorials are on YouTube. I thought it would give a better break down on the movement patterns. Wish the file covered sinlge arm 360.

Since I received Set for Set`s Mace Training Guide I have changed the way my clients and I train with the mace. We have since been working on all the fundamental mace movements and it has made such a difference. Can't wait to earn the more advanced movements. Waiting patiently for volume 2!

Steel Mace Training Guide (digital download)
Finding anything remotely like this guide for the steel mace just does not exist from what I've seen. The only other alternative is to take a price heavy certification course (course fee , travel expenses). While I'm not against a course, its not always in the budget. So I find this guide as a great alternative (along with the video demonstrations) to get started with properly using the mace. As for the actual mace itself, I have the full set of Onnit brand ones but I definitely plan on ordering one from Set for Set to try their brand out. I would highly recommend this guide to anyone with an interest in a form of alternate training.
I highly recommend this e-book before you even pick up a steel mace. Very detailed, informative. Def. a great reference book as well. Would be great to have a set for set physical book in the future! Buy it.
I've been at Steel Mace training for around a year now, and I still have so much to learn. This training e-guide has been a huge help. I'll definitely be getting my next steel mace from Set For Set!
This mace guide is awesome!! Don’t get me wrong, I like K bells but take a SFS mace bell and do tire slams or ground slams for 30 sec after your weight set and ya might have to put your heart back in your chest. Lol. K bells get mine up but nothing like the macebell can do and the exercises that can be performed with it are unlimited !!

Very informative.
I have the 7, 10 & 15 pound maces, and have used them in my Body Sculpt classes and personal workouts. I had limited knowledge of different exercises to do, but the training guide has been incredibly helpful in broadening my base of understanding on the use of the steel mace, and enthusiastically recommend adding the maces into your training regimen.
Cool guide to a ton of exercises, still think the Youtube links are best, but this is a great start!
