A new Silver Dollar deadlift world record was set this month on April 2, 2022, by strongman Sean Hayes. Hayes set the new all-time world record Silver Dollar deadlift with 1,235lb (560.2kg) at the 2022 Strongman Corporation Canada King & Queen Of The Throne event. Learn more about this obscure record below.
The Silver Dollar deadlift is a deadlift where the bar has a starting elevation of 18 inches. This exercise closely resembles a partial deadlift or rack pull. The apparatus has a box on both sides of the barbell that house the stack of weight plates.
The Silver Dollar deadlift was born in the 1800s for a display of strength at roadshows and fairs. Strongman connected two barrels filled with silver dollars and then pulled the weight from the floor. The strongman would then invite spectators to give it a try, and if a person managed to complete the task, they would win all the silver dollars in the barrels.
The 2022 Strongman Corporation Canada King & Queen Of The Throne consisted of five strength events: the Clean & Press for Reps, Farmers / Tire Medley, Sandbag to shoulder, Max Rolling Thunder, and the Max Silver Dollar Deadlift.
Sean Hayes took on the Silver Dollar deadlift as his only event at the competition. On his second attempt, Hayes managed to lock out the 1,235lb (560.2kg) Silver Dollar deadlift. Then, Hayes tried to up the ante for his third attempt with 1,300lb (589.7kg), but he couldn't hit the mark.
Hayes' new record bests the previous record of 1,212lb (550kg) that Anthony Pernice set at the United States Strongman Farm Strong Record Breaker contest back in July 2020.
Watch Hayes pull this insane amount of weight using a lifting belt and lifting straps while barefoot.
Sean Hayes is a Canadian strongman that has appeared in two well-known strongman events, including the 2021 Official Strongman Games and the 2021 Canada's Strongest Man, where he placed 7th and 3rd, respectively.
Sean Hayes has managed to lift a weight off the floor that hasn't been seen before. SET FOR SET congratulates Hayes on setting this unique record.
