2022 CrossFit Open 22.1 Workout & Recap

The 2022 CrossFit Games season is upon us. This year each CrossFit Open workout will be announced via male and female athletes battling it out. This year’s CrossFit Open will include three different workouts. The first workout 22.1, showcases Noah Ohlsen vs. Patrick Vellner and Bethany Shadburne vs. Danielle Brandon. 22.1 CrossFit workout Recap

Check out the full video below that announces the 22.1 workouts on the CrossFit YouTube channel highlighting notable athletes Noah Ohlsen, Patrick Vellner, Bethany Shadburne, and Danielle Brandon. 

Noah Ohlsen vs Patrick Vellner

The two elite athletes battled it out and displayed how challenging this workout is. Noah Ohlsen has participated in the CrossFit Games 8 times now, with his best finish in 2019 when he took second place. Ohlsen is a contender every year and has placed in the top 10 five times. Patrick Vellner has competed in 7 CrossFit Games and has come close to winning it by making the podium four times. Both athletes are running to be 2022’s Fittest Man on Earth. 

In the video you can see that the two athletes are evenly matched up, with Ohlsen off to a quick start and ahead of Vellner. Vellner ended up edging out Ohlsen by 330 reps to 322. Both were spent by the end of it, proving the intensity of the workout. 

Bethany Shadburne vs. Danielle Brandon 

These two women are no strangers to CrossFit. Bethany Shadburne has competed in 4 CrossFit Games with her highest finish in 2019, where she took 8th place. Danielle Brandon has participated in the CrossFit Games 3 times and has consistently placed in the top 15.

The two athletes fought tooth and nail throughout the workout, but Brandon pulled away and won with 332 reps versus Shadburne’s 322.

22.1 CrossFit Open Workouts

Athletes from around the world have the opportunity to submit their videos for review by 8:00 pm EST on February 28, 2022. 

RX’D

15-minute AMRAP of the following:

  • 3 wall walks
  • 12 dumbbell snatches — Men: 50 lbs | Women: 35 lbs
  • 15 box jump-overs — Men: 24-inch box | Women: 20-inch box

Scores are calculated by the total reps within the 15 minutes.

Note: For box jump overs to count, athletes have to step down from the box each rep. Jumping down to bounce back up is no longer allowed. 

Foundations 

15-minute AMRAP of the following:

  • 3 bear crawls
  • 12 dumbbell snatches — Men: 20 lbs | Women: 10 lbs
  • 15 box step-overs — Men: 12-inch box | Women: 12-inch box

Note: The same workout applies to all age groups.

Scaled

15-minute AMRAP of the following:

  • 3 wall walks (scaled)
  • 12 dumbbell snatches — Men: 35 lbs | Women: 20 lbs
  • 15 box jump-overs — Men: 24-in box | Women: 20-in box

Note: Athletes can step up on the box jump-overs.

ADAPTIVE

This year CrossFit included 16 divisions (8 for men and 8 for women). Find all workouts for each category on CrossFit's website.

2022 CrossFit Open Workouts

There are two more CrossFit Open workouts on the horizon the next two weeks.

  • Workout 22.2- Announcement coming on March 3, 2022, at 3 pm EST. Video submissions need to be sent in by 8 pm on March 7, 2022.
  • Workout 22.3- Announcement coming on March 10, 2022, at 3 pm EST. Video submissions need to be sent in by 8 pm on March 14, 2022.
