Every year, aspiring bodybuilders flock to the National Physique Committee (NPC) national championship. The NPC national championship is the last amateur bodybuilding competition any ambitious bodybuilder must go through to receive their pro-card and make it to the big leagues, entrance into pro bodybuilding shows.

This year the NPC national championship was held in Orlando, Florida, from December 17th through the 18th. The NPC show is divided into eight divisions: Men's Bodybuilding, Men's Physique, Classic Physique, Women's Bodybuilding, Figure, Bikini, Women's Physique, and Wellness.

Within these 8 different divisions, there are eight subcategories based on weight class: Overall, Bantamweight (lightest), Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight, Light-Heavyweight, Heavyweight, and finally Super-Heavyweight.

But the most popular of the divisions for men are Men's Bodybuilding, Classic Physique, and Men's Physique. For Women, it seems to be Bikini, Wellness, and a close call between Figure and Women's Physique. Now let's get into the results.

Men's Bodybuilding

Super-Heavyweight (>225lbs) & Overall Men's Bodybuilding Winner: Carlos Thomas Jr

The talk of the show was Carlos Thomas Jr for his insane physique this year. Thomas won both Men's Bodybuilding in his weight class (Super-Heavyweight) and the Men's Bodybuilding Overall class. Competitors had to weigh at least 225lbs before stepping on stage to compete in the Super-Heavyweight class. Carlos Thomas was a force to be reckoned with this year; the size and shape of his quads accentuated his upper shelf, giving a beautiful v-taper that the judges no doubt recognized.

HEAVYWEIGHT (199LBS- 225LBS) Winner: JUSTIN SHIER

Athletes competing in the heavyweight division weighed in between 199lbs and 225lbs. Justin Shier's physique stood out from the rest in his division, not for sheer size but rather his proportionality and the symmetry of his muscle bellies. His physique is reminiscent of Arnold's era bodybuilders.
