The second CrossFit Open announcement of the 2022 season, workout 22.2  came in hot today, Thursday, March 3, 2022. The five-time Fittest Man on Earth, Matt Fraser delivered the message on the official CrossFit Games YouTube channel. 

The 22.2 workout showcases Justin Medeiros, last year's champ taking on Saxon Panchik, who just recently finished eighth at Wodapalooza 2022. On the women's side, we have the two-time Second Fittest Woman on Earth, Laura Horvath taking on Emma Lawson, the Canadian phenomenon, and 2021's Fittest Teen.

JUSTIN MEDEIROS VS SAXON PANCHIK

Justin was the 2021 Fittest Man on Earth, which makes him eager to return this year and defend his title. Saxon is a great athlete as well; placing fifth in last year's Crossfit games means this should be a great battle between athletes. 

The two elite athletes battled it out and displayed how intense this workout really was. They both started at a strong pace, keeping almost neck and neck until halfway through the workout. Then, Justin slowly started to inch away, creating a decent lead.

Saxon was unable to catch back up to Justin, who finished the workout in 7 minutes and 58.10 seconds. Saxon also finished within the time limit, finishing in 8 minutes and 26.9 seconds.  

LAURA HORVATH VS EMMA LAWSON

In the video, you can see that the two athletes are evenly matched up off the rip, but Laura was better at keeping a consistent pace and quickly left Emma behind her.

Laura finished just in time, finishing in 9 minutes and 30.6 seconds. Emma, unfortunately, was unable to finish before the time ran out, just four reps shy of finishing. Based on the results and how they both were looking by the end of it proves just how strenuous this workout is.

  • Deadlifts – Men: 135 pounds | Women: 95 pounds

*Age Groups 55-59, 60-64, and 65+ for scaled divisions perform the same workout, except men use 115 pounds and women use 85 pounds for the deadlifts.

*Girls 14-15 use 55 pounds

*Boys 14-15 use 75 pounds for the deadlifts.

Adaptive

2022 CrossFit Open Workouts

With more than 290,000 athletes taking part in the Open this year across the globe, the competition is definitely going to be fierce. There is one more Open workout slated to take place this year.

  • Workout 22.3- Announcement coming on March 10, 2022, at 3 pm EST. Video submissions need to be sent in by 8 pm on March 14, 2022.
